No more incubators or IVs!

Yesterday was a big day for Sam and Max! They no longer need to be in incubators, because they are now able to regulate their body temperatures to stay warm enough without them.

In addition, Sam had his IV line removed on Tuesday, and Max had his removed yesterday, so now they are receiving nutrition purely from milk/formula. I've been pumping and bringing it to them, so it's mostly from me, and if there's not enough the nurses supplement with formula.  As Andrew explained in the last post, they are moving through their feeding protocols, learning to feed from a bottle. Some days they do really well, and other days it tires them out too much to finish. However, what they don't finish from the bottle, they still receive through the tube in their nose, otherwise known as gavage feeding. Yesterday, they both tuckered out about 3 quarters of the way through their bottles, which is totally normal and expected at this stage.
