Visiting the boys

The following day was mostly a day of recovery, since Amanda's surgery was still very recent. Later in the afternoon, with the help of some nurses Amanda stood for the first time, and was able to sit in a wheel chair so we could visit the babies together. Here are some photos of us and the babies Wednesday afternoon.

Sam is dozing in his incubator. He loves sucking on that binky.

Max is also sleeping soundly. Babies do a lot of sleeping!

"Hand hugging" is preferred for preemie babies like this, since it comforts them without being overly stimulating. Since they're six weeks premature, their brains still have a lot of development left to do (approximately 25 years).

Due to the pandemic most people wear masks like this most of the time. We were required to wear masks when moving about the hospital, but it seems like in the NICU we were allowed to take them off when we were with our babies (no one ever said we could, but also, no one ever chastised us for taking them off). We left masks on a lot of the time for everyone's safety.

Amanda loves Max's little wrinkly forehead.

The cuteness can be overwhelming.

Sam opted for a summer look with a sleeveless swaddle, showing off his already formidable arms. Dad is so proud.

Sam really enjoys his binky.
