The first few days with Sam and Max

When we had just Sam, I had this vision that once both boys were home we would be able to dress them up and take nice photos, and the first blog post with both of them at home would be all stylish and cute. Unfortunately, we haven't had the time or the energy to make that happen. Taking care of twins is really time consuming.

Each of them eats about every three hours, and requires a diaper change at the same time, and often another change between feedings. Changing their diaper, changing their sometimes soiled clothes, and feeding them takes about 30 minutes per baby. Doing this twice, means that at least one out of every three hours is spent directly managing the boys. Beyond that, there's also doing their laundry, washing and sterilizing the many bottles and pumping parts, and recording their events so that we have some estimate of when they might be hungry again. Occasionally they require more frequent service, as they can become hungry after only one to two hours since their previous feeding. Twins are a ton of work. I'm sure it will get easier with time, and someday we will be able to take more glamorous photos, but until then you'll have to suffice with cellphone shots of everyday mundane tasks with the boys.

They look extremely similar, but we're getting much better at being able to tell them apart. The easiest way to tell who is who is by looking at their ears. At least for now, Sam has rounder ears, and Max's ears are a bit more "elfish." Max's ears are slightly folded, so they look almost pointy on both sides. You can see this quite clearly here with Max in the solid blue onesie.
