Leaps
| Max looking on while Sam gives us a piece of his mind |
One of the recommendations from the parenting class that we took was to use an app called "The Wonder Weeks", which describes in detail the various changes a baby goes through as he develops. This app also has a reasonably accurate calendar of when these changes will occur based on the baby's developmental age. Each major change is called a "leap", and usually comes with a significant amount of fussiness and crying for the duration of the leap. This past week Sam and Max went through their first leap.
Indeed, they had some increased fussiness, and on multiple nights it took several hours to soothe them to bed, which was frustrating for us even though we knew what was going on. The reward for this is that they're more alert during their awake time, and they can perceive so much more around them. Instead of just staring off into space, they look around the room, focusing on faces, objects, and light and shadows on the walls and ceiling. Although still somewhat at random, they're starting to make cute expressions and noises. Amazingly, they've even developed a taste for fine Nicaraguan rum.

That last statement is a joke, obviously the best rum comes from Cuba. The Wonder Weeks app says that the first leap should be done about now, and we'll have smooth sailing... until the end of July, when the babies enter their second leap.
As usual, here are some more photos from the week:

Thank you Uncle Bruce for the blue polo shirts, they add a nice touch of class to these little rapscallions.

Two last notes:
1. We didn't wind up taking any photos of the food this time, but thank you to Aaron and Elizabeth for bringing us two home cooked meals. We appreciate the delicious food and the thoughtfulness.
2. This is Max's last week with his EarWells, as they will be coming off on Wednesday, which I'm greatly looking forward to! Next week's blog post will be even cuter.
cuter and cuter; can that be???? You're more diligent than I was. Lost track of documentation by this time!!! #NoHistory!
