Sleeping better

A striking sunset

Earlier I mentioned that we put the boys on a schedule, and that's mostly been successful. With this schedule Sam and Max have fixed eat, wake and sleep times during the day, and at night their feeding is on-demand. During the first half of July their night feeds stabilized at two per night, the first one being somewhere between midnight and 1am, and the second one between 2am and 4am. Around mid-July, they simply dropped one of the night feedings! Switching from two feeds per night to just one made a world of difference, and finally allowed Amanda and me to get more sleep. For the first time in months I've been seeing more sunsets than sunrises.

This past week the remaining night feeding has slid further and further back; it was at 2am, then 3:30am, then 4am, and now 5am. At this rate the last night feed should hopefully soon merge with their first feed of the day at 7am, and give us a beautiful twelve hour block of sleep. That glorious sleep isn't quite here yet, but it feels so very close. I know I'm cursing it by saying so, but I didn't expect the boys to be sleeping nearly this well until later in the fall. Considering that their adjusted age will be two months this August 4th (exactly two months after their original due date), I'm thrilled at just how well they're doing. Hopefully they keep it up. What wonderful little butter beans!

  2. In the photo of Manda holding them both, is that Max on the left? He appears bigger than Sam. Thanks for all these wonderful pics - I adore looking at them.

    1. Yes, that is Max on the left. His face looks bigger from the front than Sam's face. Max's face is more square.
